David has been with Halifax Estates for 34 years having joined as Assistant Agent in 1986, initially on a 3 year contract! He took over as Agent in May 1990, on the retirement of his predecessor, Allan Calder. David is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and a Fellow of the Central Association of Agricultural Valuers. He is married to Leah and they have three grown up children and one grandchild. Outside work David enjoys spending time with his family, cycling, hill walking and messing about on boats in Cornwall. David has been Clerk to the Bugthorpe & Kirby Underdale Parish Council for 30 years.

Rebecca has joined the team as Assistant Agent, taking over from Tom Julian. Rebecca has previously worked in estate management for Strutt & Parker in Scotland and for the Duchy of Lancaster. With interests in exploring the outdoors on horse and on foot, Rebecca will be getting to know the Estates over the next few months and is looking forward to meeting everyone involved. Rebecca is a Member of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors.

Sue joined the Estate in 2009 after 25 years in practice as a Chartered Accountant, mainly in the South of England. As a Yorkshire lass she wanted to return to her roots so took a sideways step for the quality of life rural Yorkshire has to offer. She is married with one grown up son who has in his time also worked on the Estate. In her free time Sue competes with her two dogs in flyball tournaments around the county or competing herself in Masters Athletics. Sue won a bronze medal in the long jump for Great Britain in the 1984 Olympic Games, held in Los Angeles.
Clerk of Works

Malcolm was employed in 2002 following many years in the building trade. During his time on the Estate he has progressed from Building Foreman to Clerk of Work and his previous practical experience is invaluable in his current role when co-ordinating the Estate’s maintenance team of builders and joiners, together with numerous contractors. Malcolm is unerringly positive and is rarely defeated when called out to an out of hours emergency, whether it be a boiler breakdown, a water burst or a mouse in the cloakroom! At weekends Malcolm enjoys his allotment and escaping to his static caravan on the East Yorkshire coast.
Residential Property Manager
Sarah joined the team as Residential Property Manager in 2017, having previously worked in Residential Sales and Lettings at Boulton & Cooper Stephenson in Malton and at Carter Jonas in York. She is married with two grown children. In her free time Sarah enjoys spending time with her family and friends, exploring the countryside with her dog, and watching her daughter ride and compete her event horse.
Shaun ran his own joinery company prior to joining the Estate in 2011. Managing a team of five skilled joiners and a fully equipped manufacturing workshop, Shaun is meticulous in ensuring that all the Department’s work is of an impeccably high standard. Shaun is very much a ‘hands on’ joiner and leads the team by example whether this be working on a cottage renovation, a farm building roof or manufacturing built in furniture for one of the Estate’s premier houses. Shaun has a young family and enjoys game shooting.
Over the 10 years that Tom has been employed by Halifax Estates he has progressed to Head of Department, leading a team of five builders. The builders have to be multi-skilled as they are expected to carry out all aspects of building construction and maintenance including groundworks, foundations, damp proofing, laying bricks and blocks, plastering and roofing. No two days are the same for this team! Despite having a young family, Tom has recently successfully completed, in his own time, a degree and is now a Member of the Chartered Institute of Building.
Sean has been Head Forester for over 20 years. During that time he has been successful in adding value to the timber grown on the Estate by developing the firewood enterprise and has also taken pride in ensuring that we provide the best Christmas trees in the locality. Sean manages a forestry team of four, as well as contractors and tree surgeons and has a close working relationship with the Head Keeper, as the forestry areas are so crucially important to the success and reputation of Garrowby Shoot. Outside work, Sean enjoys his horses and hunting within the law.
During the 18 years that Clive has been the Manager on the in-hand farm, he has developed an excellent reputation amongst Limousin cattle breeders for the quality of stock that he produces. Clive, with the help of his Assistant Stockman, is currently building up the herd of pedigree and commercial Limousin suckler cows to 200 and selects the best of the progeny born on the farm to come into the herd. Clive’s almost encyclopaedic knowledge of the breeding history of the cattle is highly impressive! There is also a flock of 750 Mule ewes on the farm. Outside work Clive has an active family life as he has three growing boys and is on hand to assist his wife, Ruth, with her holiday lodge business.
Frank came up from Gloucestershire to take over as Head Keeper in 2006. He manages a game keeping staff of three, each of which run their own Garrowby Estate beat. Frank is a firm believer in leading from the front and devotes a huge amount of time and effort into maintaining Garrowby Shoot as probably the premier high pheasant shoot in the country. When time allows Frank and his partner, Sally, enjoy travelling and savouring the different cultures in various parts of the world.
